Rotary International is a world-wide fellowship of business and professional people who are united in the ideal of service to the community-locally, nationally and internationally. This dual ideal of fellowship and service is shared by well over 1 million members of more than 26,000 clubs in about 150 countries. The motto of Rotary International is 'Service above Self'.

Membership of all Rotary Clubs is by invitation and is drawn from those who live or work in the area around each club. Our club looks actively for new members, you can learn more by contacting us by email -( see bottom of page for link).

Rotary Clubs generally meet once a week either at breakfast, lunchtime or in the evening. During the meetings there are reports, discussions and speakers. The meetings are run by our President, who serves for one year.

Club members are allocated by the President to committees that cover the service, community, vocational and international aspects of our activities. Rotary will make some demands on your time, it is up to individual Rotarians to decide how much they can manage.

The regular demands on the pocket amount to the few pounds a week for lunch and an annual subscription which is currently little more than a 2 pounds a week. You can spend more on social activities, but that is up to each member.

All of the activities of Rotary Clubs are completely open, we welcome and encourage the interest of the community in what we do. We are non-sectarian in Religion and not linked to any political party.

Rotarians are encouraged to visit other clubs whenever they have the opportunity on business or social trips. It is nice to know, wherever you go, that you can be among friends with similar ideals.

Much of the charitable work of Rotary is focused on local needs such as organising help for the handicapped and elderly, holidays for disadvantaged families, responses to appeals for emergency help and so on. Internationally, Rotary Clubs have contributed to eye camps in India and Africa, to the eradication of polio, help in water aid projects, sent books and tools to third world countries and so on.

Rotary Club contributes to the vocational development of the community by, for example, sponsoring youngsters on 'outward bound' courses, entries in a 'Youth Speaks' competition, organising a festival for young musicians and conducting 'job' interviews that give experience and guidance to those seeking employment.
