Recent Events

Everyone was deeply saddened by the news that our member Jock Stewart has passed away in September 2011. Jock was Senior Vice President and would have been President in this Rotary Year of 2011/2012.  Everyone who knew Jock will miss him and we send sincere condolences to his widow, Mary who is also a member of our Rotary Club.

Rotarian Ron Earl has agreed to carry on as President for a second year.

We have inducted two new members over the summer, Diana Henfrey and John Tobin and one new Honorary Member our Webmaster Peter Munday so we are now 20 plus our three honorary members.

Cllr Ian Leake talkOn Tuesday 21st September we welcomed Cllr Ian Leake, Mayor of Bracknell Forest Borough, to lunch and he gave a very interesting, thought provoking and somewhat controversial talk about being Mayor and about the Cabinet system of local government as operated by the Council.

We were also delighted to welcome Niall Blair District Governor Elect to lunch that day.

On Saturday 21st January 2012 the Rotary Club of Bracknell held a very successful Burn's Night Dinner at the Flavell Suite, Sindlesham Court, attended by 120 people including District Governor Niall Blair with his wife Sheila and Tina Peacock-Edwards, Co-ordinator of Help for Heroes in Berkshire and her husband Rick. The evening was memorable for the wonderful Bagpipe and Drum music of Alan Vaughan and Adrian Jackson from the Reading Pipe Band, a delicious four course Burns' Supper and Ceilidh dancing organised by Rotarian Alan Davis. The Burns' Night dinner was held in aid of Help for Heroes and is now established as an annual event in the calendar of the Rotary Club of Bracknell. Next year it will be held on Saturday 26th January 2013 so put the date in your diary now.
